Anne Lofthouse is a highly experienced Occupational Therapist with over four decades in the field. Her diverse clinical experience includes working with spinal injuries, learning disabilities, mental health, and neurology. Throughout her career, she has held significant roles such as community team manager, service user and carer lead, and head occupational therapist within the NHS.

Anne completed her Foundation and Advanced Certificates in moving and handling at the University of Southampton. During her studies, she volunteered to deliver the module on Challenging Behaviour, reflecting her particular interest and expertise in this area. This experience led her to develop innovative, person-centred approaches for complex cases, resulting in a paper-based tool to aid in these situations.

 In retirement from the NHS, Anne has continued her work as an OT, focusing on complex and challenging moving and handling cases. She co-developed the Movementor App with Dr. Simon Snowden, PhD, utilising the combination of their unique experiences and skills. 

Anne’s approach is deeply influenced by her work with learning disabilities and her commitment to human rights principles, such as the FREDA principles. She has worked on significant projects, including the Human Rights in Healthcare initiative with the Department of Health and the British Institute of Human Rights. She was also a project lead and provided evidence for the Joint Committee on Human Rights regarding the rights of adults with learning disabilities.

 These experiences have shaped Anne’s dedication to meaningful occupations and person-centred care, particularly for the most vulnerable and marginalised individuals. Her work consistently reflects her commitment to finding the right moving and handling approaches to facilitate meaningful activities for all.
