Exploring Potential Solutions for the Handling Task
From the ‘Patient Detail’ view go to the handling plan record you wish to edit and click on the ‘Solutions’ button.
This will take you into the ‘Solution’ view ready for an exploration of possible solutions to a variety of challenges that may be faced in the handling task.
As you can see you can access the ‘Solutions’ view only once you have started all of the discovery sections.
At the top of the solutions view is a title showing the patient this solution exploration is for, and the specific handling task being addressed.
Then we have the patient’s information (date of birth, height range, BMI range, consent and capacity status).
Then a switch to flag the solution exploration as being completed.
Only activate this switch once you are sure that the exploration covers all relevant details for the handling task being covered by this handling plan record and there is agreement among the team.
Below this there are a series of solutions challenge matrices. There are four of these matices; Physical, Psychological, Social/Cultural and Legal/Regulatory/Procedural.
Each matrix provides a unique set of potential solutions to a common set of challenges.
The Physical matrix focuses on the patient’s physical condition and possible solutions that could be explored against a series of challenges.
These challenges include a patient’s cognitive impairment, mood, and levels of stress/anxiety.
Physical solutions to these include Review medication, Refer to other professionals or Therapeutic intervention.
When selecting a specific solution for a challenge don’t simply select those you think you are going to implement - but select all that are applicable for this handling task.
Developing a handling plan isn’t simply a problem-solving exercise - it is a design process. When entering a design process we don’t want to preempt solutions but begin by considering all that could be considered a possibility in addressing a challenge within the context of the handling task.
The comments section becomes a really important point here as the team debates the possibilities of particular solutions in the handling plan context and the team begins to zero in on specific approaches.
As a specific solution is discounted by the team it can be deselected - but the reasoning behind its removal remains in the comments section.
Some solutions may require further investigation and adding new assessment tasks can be done (see the section on tasks).
